Bio Filter Nitro GTr

Genetica Bioscience, in partnership with CerMedia™ USA, the creators of BIOVAST media, has developed a filter designed for nitrogen removal and load reduction, utilizing only the effluent's flow, without the need for an air diffusion system.

BioVast Media

Porous structure found in the media

Nitrogen removal through the activated sludge process is well-known as an effective solution, but it comes with high costs and operational difficulties. The Bio Filter Nitro GTr technology offers a significant solution to these challenges.

The technology is very straightforward, involving simply pumping the effluent over the media while applying bioremediators. There is no need for complex operations or excessive energy consumption associated with high-power air diffusion systems.

Efficiency
  • 93% TKN (Total Kjeldahl Nitrogen) removal
  • 95% BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand) removal
Advantages
  • Systems like this, defined as biofilters, offer the major advantage of low maintenance and installation costs. Installing these systems mainly involves constructing a container for the media, applying the bacteria, and using an electric pump.
  • Maintenance is carried out through the reapplication of bacteria, dosed according to the characteristics of each effluent, backwashing, and occasional replenishment of small amounts of media.
Advantages Compared to the Activated Sludge System
  • No need for an aeration system
  • Stability
  • Low sludge generation

Prototype

Tests with the BioVast filter conducted at Genetica Bioscience's microbiology laboratory used a prototype consisting of:

  • 1 tank: used for storing the BioVast media, with a lid equipped with a drip system
  • 1 cone: employed for effluent retention and the application of nitrifying bacteria
  • 1 dosing pump: with a flow rate of 10 liters/hour, creating the cone-to-tank flow
  • 1 blue hose: connecting the cone to the tank
  • 1 silver hose: connecting the tank to the cone
